Summer Book Club
Our annual Summer Book Club begins June 16. This year we’ll be reading The Correspondent by Virginia Evans.
The Correspondent follows Sybil Van Antwerp, a reserved and perceptive woman who maintains her world through carefully crafted letters. Living alone and working as a proofreader, Sybil observes life at a distance, until her correspondence begins to reveal deeper longings and unresolved grief, especially in her relationships with family and those she keeps at arm’s length. As her letters unfold, a subtle narrative emerges of missed chances, quiet regrets, and unexpected connection. Often described as gentle and introspective, the novel builds an emotional portrait of a woman learning, slowly, how to step out from behind her words and truly engage with others.
The Correspondent has gained a lot of popularity since its release last year so if you are wishing to check it out from the library you may want to check early about availability.
We’ll be meeting three times (June 16, July 7, and July 28) to discuss the book on the back deck, weather permitting. We’d love to see you there!
